Third Issue Ten-Cent Note Washington on Obverse, Green Reverse The third issue began to roll off the presses in December of 1864. It introduced new measures to combat counterfeiters including printed and autographed signatures of the U.S. Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, bronzed and embossed characters and numerals, and, in some cases, printer's positioning or "plate" marks. This pleasing example of a green-backed Freidberg #1255 has been given the "Choice" designation by PCGS. The reverse upper left reveals a plate number, this one of the rarer "mirrored" type as shown. A desirable grade for a discerning collector, and a plus for any collector who pays special attention to plate numbers. PCGS Graded 55, Choice About New FR 1255

Third Issue Ten-Cent Note
Washington on Obverse, Green Reverse
Well centered front and back, strong ink, and a very good Washington head--some look a bit scrunched in the middle of his face. The paper is crisp, and this is a strong EF/AU example.

Third Issue Ten-Cent Note
Washington on Obverse, Green Reverse
Green reverse, with position numeral "1" on the obverse
This one has it all, even margining front and back, sharp corners, and clean, deep ink. There is a bit of ink shadowing the reverse edges, but not enough to distract.

Third Issue Twenty-Five Cent Note
Embossed Scroll Work On Obverse
The most attractive Fessenden we've seen for the grade. At PMG-graded 64, Choice, with EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality), it looks even better. When observing the clear holder without a background the red reverse shows through a touch, creating a rose hue around the picture and over the scroll work. Step up and take advantage at a bargain price on one of the most aesthetically pleasing fractionals that has crossed our desk.

Third Issue Twenty-Five Cent Note
Obverse Of Wiliam Pitt Fessenden
Embossed Scroll Work On Obverse
Obverse is especially nice with clear graphics, square corners, and even margins. No visible creases.
Reverse has press ink spot along top left margin and a faint vertical line-broken-along left (other black showing at either end is background for photo). It is the more valued "red" back.
Just shy of AU, PMG has added the "Choice" credit to this note for its outstanding eye appeal.
